Villa Nepenthe is a 120 m² two-bedroom villa on the Alevrota hill in Kamilari, a traditional hillside village in south-central Crete, roughly 2 km from the Libyan Sea and a 10-minute drive from the sandy beaches of Komos, Kalamaki and Kokkinos Pyrgos. The Minoan palace of Phaistos is 3 km away, Matala's famous cliffside caves and beach are about 15 minutes by car, and Heraklion airport sits roughly 62 km north — typically a 1h drive. The villa spreads across three floors. The ground floor is an open-plan living space with a fully equipped kitchen, a closed indoor fireplace, and panoramic folding glass doors that open the entire room onto a covered pergola terrace with outdoor dining. The first floor has two bedrooms (one king, one twin/double convertible) each with its own bathroom and balcony. The top floor is the villa's signature space: a rooftop terrace with a full outdoor kitchen, gas BBQ, lounge seating and a herb roof garden, with an unbroken view across an olive-grove valley to the Asterousia mountains, the Libyan Sea and the small island of Paximadia. A 10-metre lap pool runs alongside a tropical garden with palm trees, and a sheltered stone garden at the back of the house has a Mediterranean planting scheme. The interior pairs traditional Cretan architecture with a modern boho aesthetic. Air conditioning runs in every room, with Wi-Fi access points across all three floors and two outdoors. The villa sleeps four and is best suited to two couples travelling together, a family of four, or a small group wanting a quiet base for exploring the Messara plain, Phaistos, Matala and the south-coast beaches. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. Parking on site.

Nepenthe is a recipe for happiness. This word is mentioned in ancient Greek literature and mythology as a "cure for sadness". In the Odyssey, nepenthe is the name of a magical potion, given to Helen of Troy to chase away her sorrows. This is why we believe it's a great name for our home, because for us it represents a modern version to this theme. Located on top of a hill in the south of the beautiful island of Crete, overlooking olive orchards, distant mountains and the vast ocean, this place has all the ingredients to heal the soul. The project of designing and building Nepenthe was a real labour of love for us and we hope you'll feel right at home here. You'll discover why Greece is called "The Land of Gods", as all your worries fade away with every sunset.
