It's a drive of about 60 minutes from Heraklion airport. It's recommended to hire a car for the entire trip. Some companies have a carpark at the airport, which is useful. You'll need a GPS app on your smartphone, like Waze or Apple Maps. The reason is that many streets in Crete have no name.
